It is a next-generation fractionated ablative laser that delivers precise, sub-pulsed energy to rejuvenate skin with less heat, less downtime, and greater comfort than traditional laser resurfacing. It effectively targets sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, uneven texture, and skin laxity, and unlike many laser systems, it is safe for all skin tones, including deeper complexions.
At Swann Dermatology, UltraClear treatments are performed by our experienced laser team under the supervision of Dr. Michael H. Swann, MD, MS, board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon.

UltraClear Treatment Options
3DMiracl is a gentler UltraClear treatment that targets the uppermost layers of skin to trigger natural exfoliation and a radiant glow. There is virtually no medical downtime, making it an accessible option for patients who want visible results without interrupting their schedule. 3DMiracl is typically performed as a series of treatments and works well for all skin tones and ages.
UltraClear Customized Treatment For patients with more significant concerns — deeper wrinkles, acne scarring, or pronounced sun damage — the UltraClear Customized Treatment goes deeper into the skin to stimulate collagen remodeling and more dramatic resurfacing. This option involves 2–3 days of downtime, during which the skin will feel sensitive and begin to naturally peel and renew.
Your provider will recommend the right UltraClear approach for your skin during your consultation.
What To Expect
Before Your Treatment
- Avoid sun exposure for 3–4 weeks before and after treatment
- Treating tanned skin is not recommended and can result in unwanted side effects
- Stop using exfoliating products (retinoids, acids) approximately 1 week before treatment
- Your provider may recommend a pre-treatment skincare protocol depending on your skin tone and goals
After Your Treatment
Your recovery will depend on which UltraClear treatment you receive. 3DMiracl has no medical downtime, though you may experience mild redness, swelling, or warmth that typically resolves within hours. If you choose the UltraClear Customized Treatment, however, you can expect the following:
- Day of Treatment: Redness, warmth, and a sunburn-like sensation are normal. Heat peaks immediately after treatment and gradually subsides.
- Day 1: Slight redness and mild swelling possible. Skin feels unusually soft and silky before the exfoliation phase begins.
- Days 2–6: Skin begins to naturally peel as the treated surface sheds and fresh skin emerges beneath.
- Week 1: Most patients report smoother, more even-feeling skin as the peeling resolves.
- 1–2 Months: Collagen remodeling continues beneath the surface, with gradual improvements in texture, tone, and firmness.
Your provider will walk you through a full set of aftercare instructions during your consultation and send you home with everything you need to properly care for your skin post-procedure.

FAQ's
How many UltraClear treatments will I need?
What is the difference between an UltraClear laser and a CO2 laser?
A traditional CO2 laser is a trusted, high-powered option for skin resurfacing. It relies on intense heat to strip away damaged skin layers, producing dramatic improvements, though patients should expect a longer recovery period and more downtime afterward. UltraClear, on the other hand, represents the next generation of fractional CO2 technology. By delivering controlled, lower-heat energy, it treats skin with greater precision, which translates to quicker healing, minimal downtime, and treatments that can be tailored to each patient’s needs. Traditional CO2 remains a strong choice for deep wrinkles and more significant skin damage, while UltraClear shines when it comes to refining texture and tone or addressing mild to moderate concerns with a gentler touch, earning it a reputation as the new gold standard in resurfacing.
