Botox is an injection that relaxes facial muscles for 4-5 months to soften the look of lines and wrinkles, made by Allergan. It works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles, so injected muscles don’t contract.
FDA-approved to treat crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines, Botox can also used in other areas, including the lips, nose, lower face, neck, and even downturned smiles. Botox treats wrinkles created by repeated muscle movement (11’s aka the frown lines made by furrowing your brow).
In minimal doses, Botox can be used to delay the formation of new lines, which is a plus if you’re young and only make lines when you move, but concerned about wrinkles developing later.
Relax your wrinkles
Botox® & Jeuveau® are neuromodulators, literally causing relaxation of specific muscles and offering remarkable treatment that erases frown lines, worry lines, and crow’s feet. It also maximizes and extends the results achieved through laser skin treatments or injectable fillers. Also, treatments are nearly painless, and effects last 3-5 months. Which one should you use? Dr. Swann says it’s up to you as the studies have shown them equivalent and there are some benefits to using each. Sometimes there is a better opportunity with one or the other (rebate or pricing) and then it might be a great time to try something new. But if it isn’t broken, there is no need to fix it!
How does it work?
I’ve heard Botox® Cosmetic is the same as Botulism Toxin. Is that true?
Not exactly – Botox® & Jeuveau® are the purified toxin produced by the botulism bacteria! They work by selectively relaxing muscles that contribute to frown lines and certain other facial wrinkles. So why don’t you get botulism? The amount of Botox® or Jeuveau® I would need to inject all at once to give you botulism is over 100 times the amount given in an average session, and there is no cumulative effect from session to session.

What it's like before and after treatment
If you are a little nervous, that’s okay! Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, erythema, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. We use a 32G (tiny tiny tiny) needle and some sticks are barely felt. For specific instructions on what to do before and after your injection, please talk to your provider.
The most commonly reported side effects in clinical trials include headache, eyelid drooping, upper respiratory tract infection and increased white blood cell count. No serious drug-related adverse events were observed in the studies with Jeuveau®.
How do I get an appointment?
Call 417-888-0858 and talk to someone on our cosmetic staff about setting up an appointment. If you are in a pinch for time, we can often get you in on the same day for treatment! We try to make it easy
Will I lose normal facial expression?
Will Neuromodulators erase all wrinkles?
No – Botox® & Jeuveau® are best for wrinkles that form as a direct result of muscle contraction. Frown lines and crows’ feet are the best examples. With continued use, these wrinkles soften over time and may even disappear. Wrinkles in other areas of the face, such as the smile lines, cheeks, or undereyes, are often better suited for lasers, peels, products or injectable fillers.
