Brachytherapy on the Nose

Brachytherapy on the Nose

Case Details

Diagnosis: Basal Cell Carcinoma, Nose

Procedure: Brachytherapy

Description: The patient had let their basal cell carcinoma grow for quite a long time (image 1). She had anxiety about losing her nose, her overall cosmetic appearance if she underwent surgery, and how that would affect the structure of the nose. After discussing the repair process, which could have included a graft or flap, the patient decided that Electronic Brachytherapy would be a better treatment course, despite having a lower cure rate than Mohs. The treatments were provided bi-weekly for 5 weeks, and the nose became inflamed during the course of treatment (image 2). The patient was very satisfied with the cosmetic and functional outcome (image 3).
